Heavy Blend was a three month long project in which participants were asked to donate clothing labels cut from their own wardrobes to create a collaborative textile. The artist hand sewed the contributions into a space of contemplation and connection meant to acknowledge and show gratitude to the workers within the international textile industry.
Donations was an invitation for the viewer to get up close to examine the cast offs of others as well as the culture from which they came from. It was also an opportunity to collaborate with those working within the second hand community and to acknowledge their contribution in slowing our consumption of products.
In the project We, the artist wrapped by sewing, specific objects or tools used by other artists in their practice. The process was intended to be an act of appreciation for their contribution as artists to society and an attempt to validate and connect a group of individuals despite disparate art practices.
